What is a Plantar Wart?

A plantar wart also known as verucca plantaris is a common viral condition which most often appears on the bottom of the feet

Causes and Symptoms

The virus (human papilloma virus HPV) causes a soft tissue growth, which can appear as one or multiple lesions.

Signs and symptoms can include:

  • Pain (especially with walking and direct pressure)
  • Thickening of the skin (can resemble a callus)
  • Pin-point bleeding (result of blood vessel formation within the warty tissue)

Plantar warts usually respond well to conservative treatment measures. Your doctor may use various topical medications to remove the wart. In some cases surgical removal can be performed. It is very important to follow home care instructions diligently as this can affect treatment outcomes and recurrence
